Terms of Service
Last updated: 15 October 2026
These Terms are the agreement between you and epono. You buy a service from us, we are responsible for arranging it, and we arrange it through independent local providers. We never send money on your behalf. You are responsible for making sure that using epono is lawful where you live. Canadian law governs this agreement.
01 · About these Terms
These Terms of Service ("Terms") form a binding agreement between you and epono corp, a corporation being incorporated under the laws of Canada and trading under the epono trademark ("epono", "we", "us" or "our"). They govern your access to and use of the website at epono.ca, the epono web application, the epono AI assistant, and every service you order through them (together, the "Services").
By creating an account, ticking the acceptance box, or placing an order, you confirm that you have read, understood and accepted these Terms, our Privacy Policy, our Acceptable Use & Restricted Services Policy and, if you subscribe, our epono Pro Terms. These documents form part of these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Services.
Please read Section 6 (Your responsibility for the laws that apply to you), Section 20 (Limitation of liability) and Section 25 (Governing law and disputes) carefully. They affect your legal rights.
02 · Definitions
- Customer or you — the person who creates an epono account, places and pays for orders, and accepts these Terms.
- Loved One (also called Recipient) — the person, usually a family member living in another country, for whom a service is carried out. A Loved One is not a party to these Terms and has no commercial relationship with epono.
- Local Provider — an independent business or individual in the destination country that carries out the physical part of a service under a separate agreement with epono or with a provider network engaged by epono.
- Local Partner means an independent business, approved by epono, that introduces its own customers to epono, may prepare Requests for them (Section 10) and may carry out their Orders as a Local Provider. A Local Partner is not epono's agent: it cannot accept Orders, change these Terms or make promises on our behalf.
- Coordinator — the epono team member responsible for your request, from pricing to completion.
- Request — a description of what you need, prepared by you alone, with the help of the epono AI assistant, or for you by a Local Partner (Section 10).
- Order — a Request that you have approved and paid for, which we have accepted.
- epono Credit — a non-cash balance held in your account under Section 13.
- epono Pro — our paid membership, governed by the epono Pro Terms.
03 · What epono is — and what it is not
epono is a service company. We sell you a defined service and we are your only counterparty for it. To carry the service out, we buy service capacity from Local Providers who are independent of epono. We supervise the result and report it to you.
In every Order there are exactly two contracts: the contract between you and epono under these Terms, and a separate commercial contract between epono (or its provider network) and the Local Provider. There is no contract between you and the Local Provider, and no contract between epono and your Loved One.
This is also true when a Local Partner introduced you to epono or prepared your Order: you buy the Order from epono under these Terms, and the Local Partner carries it out for epono. Anything you agreed with a Local Partner outside epono is between you and the Local Partner; it does not form part of an Order and does not bind epono.
epono does not:
- transmit, remit or transfer money, value or assets on your behalf, to your Loved One or to anyone else;
- operate as a money services business, payment service, remittance service, currency exchange or stored-value provider;
- operate a marketplace between you and Local Providers — you do not choose, pay or deal with the Local Provider;
- provide medical, legal, financial, tax, immigration or other professional advice or treatment — we coordinate, we do not treat or advise;
- sell or deliver goods as a merchant, except incidental items purchased as part of a service and within the limits of our Acceptable Use & Restricted Services Policy;
- knowingly deal with any person or entity listed under Canadian sanctions laws, or with any entity owned or controlled by such a person.
The price you pay is the price of a service. It is not a sum held for, or passed on to, your Loved One, and part of it is not "forwarded" to anyone. How epono pays its own suppliers is a matter between epono and those suppliers.
04 · Eligibility
To create an account and use the Services you must:
- have reached the age of majority in the province, territory or country where you live, and in any case be at least 18 years old;
- have full legal capacity to enter into a binding contract;
- not be a "U.S. person" as described in Section 6, unless and until epono announces otherwise in writing;
- not be resident in, or ordinarily located in, a country or territory that is subject to comprehensive Canadian sanctions;
- not be listed on, or owned or controlled by anyone listed on, any sanctions or denied-party list described in Section 7;
- not have had an epono account previously closed by us for breach of these Terms.
You must use the Services for personal or family purposes only. If you want to use epono for a business or organisation, contact us first; separate terms may apply.
05 · Your account
You must give us accurate, current and complete information about yourself, keep it up to date, and keep your sign-in credentials, one-time codes and devices secure. You are responsible for everything done through your account, including by any Loved One you invite. Tell us immediately at support@epono.ca if you suspect unauthorised use.
You may only hold one personal account. We may verify your identity — for example through your email address, your phone number and the payment method on file — and we may refuse or suspend an account if we cannot.
You can sign up and sign in with your email address and a password, with a Google or Apple account where we offer it, or with a Canadian mobile number and a one-time code we send to it by text message. A Canadian mobile number you confirm with a code, at sign-up or in your account, is one you can sign in with, and only one account can use it. Keep it current and tell us if you lose access to it. An account opened with a mobile number has no email address until you add one, and until then we cannot reach you by email.
The partner you came through. If you sign up through a link or a code from one of our sales partners or Local Partners, that partner is recorded as the partner you came through. You choose it when you sign up, by the link or the code you use, and it does not change afterwards, except that in exceptional cases, such as a sign-up through the wrong link that the partners concerned confirm, a senior member of our team may correct it, giving a reason that we record. An Order a Local Partner prepared for you, and a free month of epono Pro from a Local Partner's code, are available only in an account that came through that Local Partner.
06 · Your responsibility for the laws that apply to you
This section is fundamental to your agreement with us. Please read it carefully.
You are responsible for your own legal compliance
epono is a Canadian company. We design and operate the Services to comply with the laws of Canada. We do not represent or warrant that the Services, or your use of them, are lawful in any other country or territory. Many countries, including the country where you live and the country where your Loved One lives, have their own laws on sanctions, export controls, foreign exchange, taxation, consumer matters, data protection and dealings with other countries.
You alone are responsible for knowing and complying with every law that applies to you personally — because of your citizenship, nationality, residence, permanent-resident status, location, employment or any other connection — when you open an account, place an Order or otherwise use the Services. You accept the Services on that basis and at your own risk with respect to those laws. epono has no obligation to advise you about, monitor or ensure your compliance with any law other than the laws that apply to epono itself.
Each time you use the Services, you confirm that:
- your use of the Services is permitted under every law that applies to you;
- you are not using the Services to avoid, evade or breach any law, sanction or restriction that applies to you, to your Loved One or to epono;
- you have obtained, at your own cost, any licence, authorisation or advice you need under the laws that apply to you.
U.S. persons
As an example of this principle, the United States applies its own sanctions regime to "U.S. persons" wherever they are located — including U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents (green-card holders) living in Canada or elsewhere, anyone physically present in the United States, and entities organised under U.S. law. Those rules may prohibit a U.S. person from using services connected with certain countries, even when the same services are lawful in Canada.
epono does not currently offer the Services to U.S. persons. By using the Services you confirm that you are not a U.S. person and that you are not acting for, or with funds belonging to, a U.S. person. If you become a U.S. person, you must stop using the Services and tell us. Whether your status, nationality or location means that a foreign law restricts you is a matter for you and your own advisers, not for epono.
Consequences
If we have reason to believe that your use of the Services may breach a law that applies to you, to your Loved One or to epono, we may refuse, suspend or cancel any Order or close your account under Section 22. You will indemnify epono under Section 21 for any loss that results from your breach of this section. Nothing in this section limits any right you have under Canadian consumer protection law that cannot be excluded by contract.
07 · Sanctions and compliance
epono complies with Canadian sanctions laws, including the Special Economic Measures Act and its regulations, the Justice for Victims of Corrupt Foreign Officials Act, the United Nations Act and the anti-terrorism provisions of the Criminal Code, and with Canadian anti-money-laundering law.
To do so, we may review any Request or Order and the information you give us, and we apply rules that identify unusual ordering patterns. If a concern arises, we may hold the Order, ask you for information, and refuse or cancel it. If we refuse an Order for compliance reasons after you have paid, we refund you in full under Section 14, unless the law requires us to freeze or otherwise deal with the funds.
When you place an Order, you confirm through a separate checkout declaration that:
- your Loved One is a family member or a person personally known to you, whom you can identify by name and address;
- to the best of your knowledge, neither you nor your Loved One is listed on, or owned or controlled by a person listed on, any sanctions list maintained by Canada, the United Nations, the European Union, the United Kingdom or the United States;
- the Order is for personal or family use, and not for resale, redistribution, commercial activity or onward supply to an unknown third party;
- the Order does not involve, and is not a substitute for, any transfer of money, monetary value, assets, securities or controlled goods to any person;
- you have the right to share your Loved One's personal information with epono for the purpose of the Order;
- the information you have given us is accurate and complete.
We keep a record of each declaration, including the time and the network address from which it was made. A false declaration is a material breach of these Terms. We may report suspected breaches of law to the competent authorities where the law requires or permits us to do so, and we are not required to tell you that we have done so. Our general approach is described in our Sanctions & Compliance Statement.
08 · The Services
epono arranges everyday practical services for your Loved One in their own country — for example groceries and essentials, accompaniment to medical appointments, home and technical help, document support, check-in visits and celebrations. The catalogue on our website shows what is currently available and may change at any time.
We decide which Local Provider carries out each Order and how the service is organised; for an Order a Local Partner prepared for you, it is usually that Local Partner. You cannot select or instruct a Local Provider directly, and Local Providers will not contact you about an Order. All communication goes through your Coordinator, including with a Local Partner that introduced you, once you have loaded an Order it prepared.
Some services are never offered. They are listed in our Acceptable Use & Restricted Services Policy. We may decline any Request, including one for a service shown in our catalogue, at our sole discretion and without being obliged to give a reason.
Where we provide evidence that a service was completed (for example photographs, receipts or a written report), it is provided for your information and peace of mind. Its content depends on what can reasonably and lawfully be recorded in the destination country.
09 · The AI assistant
You can describe your needs to the epono AI assistant, which prepares a structured summary ("Brief") for you to review and send. The assistant is a drafting aid only. It does not set prices, accept Orders, choose Local Providers, make commitments on behalf of epono or give professional advice, and its suggestions may be incomplete or wrong. Nothing becomes an Order until you have approved a priced Request and paid, and we have accepted it.
Do not enter information into the assistant that is not needed for your Request. Conversations with the assistant are stored with your Request and read by your Coordinator, as explained in our Privacy Policy. The assistant is not available to Loved Ones and may not be available from certain locations.
When you are signed in, you can add photos to the conversation. The assistant does not read, analyse or use them. They are kept with your Brief for your Coordinator once you approve it, and deleted after a day if you do not. Only add photos that are needed for your Request, and do not add photos of other people without their permission.
10 · How an Order is made
- Request. You send a Request, with or without the AI assistant.
- Pricing. Your Coordinator reviews it, may ask questions, and sends you a priced summary. Prices are in Canadian dollars (CAD) unless stated otherwise. Some prices are marked as time-limited because local costs change quickly; those prices are valid only for the period shown.
- Approval. You approve the priced summary, ask for changes, or decline it.
- Payment. You pay the full price in advance. Your Request becomes locked once you pay.
- Acceptance. The contract for an Order is formed when your payment is complete and we confirm the Order. We may refuse to accept any Request before that point.
- Execution. We arrange the service and keep you informed.
- Completion. When the work is reported as done, we ask you to confirm it (see Section 15).
You can ask for an Order or a Request again at any stage, as long as we still offer the service. A repeat is a new Request: it is priced again, and the earlier price does not apply.
An Order prepared by a Local Partner
A Local Partner may prepare a Request for you: the service, a description of the work, its price, and the delivery details of the person who receives it. It gives you a tracking code, or a link, to load that Request into your account. A tracking code is personal: do not share it.
The tracking code and the link work only in an account that came to epono through that Local Partner (Section 5), and only for 30 days from the day the Local Partner sent the Request to us, unless it withdraws the Request sooner. When you load it, we show you every detail. You must check them and confirm that the Request is yours and correct, and that you have the permission of the person who receives it to give us their name, phone number and address for it; the delivery details are then saved in your account. From then on it is your Request, and it continues with the priced summary (step 2 above): nothing is ordered until you approve it and pay.
The price is the one the Local Partner set. It includes our fee and, if you are an epono Pro member, the epono Pro discount (Section 11). If you ask for a change that alters the price, the Local Partner prepares a new version and we send you a new summary. We may refuse a Request a Local Partner prepared, before or after you load it, until you approve it.
11 · Prices and payment
The price shown when you approve a Request is the total price of the service, including our fee. Applicable taxes are shown separately at checkout where required by law.
If you are an epono Pro member when the price of a Request is set, that price already includes the epono Pro discount on our fee, as set out in Section 5 of our epono Pro Terms. If you are not, we show beside the price what it would be with epono Pro.
We process payments through third-party payment processors, currently Stripe. We never see or store your full card number; the processor stores it and we keep only a reference, the card brand, the last four digits and the expiry date. Your payment is also subject to the processor's terms, which may allow the processor to refuse, delay, hold or reverse a payment independently of epono.
Payment works on an all-or-nothing basis: where an Order is paid from more than one source (for example epono Credit and a card), every part is reserved first and nothing is taken unless the whole amount can be taken. If any part fails, all reservations are released and you can try again. You will never be charged for only part of an Order.
Promotional codes do not reduce the price at payment. Redeeming a code adds the amount it states to your epono Credit (Section 13), once per account and under the conditions shown when it is issued. A code has no cash value and cannot be exchanged or transferred.
You must not reverse or dispute a valid payment with your bank or card issuer before contacting us. If a payment is reversed, we may suspend your account until the matter is resolved and recover the amount owed.
12 · Price changes after payment
Once you have paid, the price of your Order is fixed. If unforeseen local costs arise during execution and add up to no more than 10% of the price of your Order, epono absorbs them.
If additional costs would exceed 10% of the price, we will explain them and ask for your approval before continuing that part of the work. If you approve, you pay the additional amount. If you do not approve, we will complete what can reasonably be completed within the original price or, where that is not possible, cancel the remaining part of the Order and refund the amount for the part not performed.
13 · epono Credit
epono Credit is a balance recorded in your account. Refunds are added to it immediately, and it can also come from top-ups, promotional codes, credit we grant you and, for epono Pro members, the fee back. Every Customer can use it to pay for Orders, whether or not they are an epono Pro member. epono Pro members can also top it up, and may receive epono Credit as compensation when we resolve a problem.
epono Credit:
- can only be used to pay for epono Orders and, where offered, membership fees;
- is not money, a deposit, a bank account or a stored-value instrument, earns no interest, and cannot be sent, transferred, gifted or paid out to any other person, including your Loved One;
- can be topped up by epono Pro members from a saved card, between 10 and 5,000 CAD at a time; a top-up reaches your balance once our checks on it pass;
- is used automatically before your card when you pay, as shown at checkout; credit with an end date is used first, the soonest-ending first.
Credit that comes from your own money, through a top-up or a refund, stays yours and does not expire. If you are not an epono Pro member, you may request a cash-out of that part of your balance at any time. If your epono Pro membership ends or your account is closed, your balance stays recorded in your name and you can keep using it to pay for Orders; we will email you to invite you to request a cash-out. Once you request one, we pay that part out to you. Promotional credit, from a promotional code or credit we grant you, has no cash value and is not paid out. It may carry an end date, which we show you when it is issued, and whatever of it is unspent by then ends. It also ends if your account is erased at your request. The epono Pro fee back is promotional credit: it is yours to spend until the end of the membership month after the one in which you received it, as set out in Section 6 of our epono Pro Terms.
14 · Cancellations and refunds
Before you pay
You may decline a priced summary or withdraw a Request at any time before payment, at no cost.
After you pay, before the work starts
You may ask to cancel a paid Order until the work starts. Your Coordinator may confirm or decline the cancellation, and tells you which. If the Order is cancelled before the work starts, you receive back everything you paid — including where a Local Provider has already accepted the job; any cost already incurred with the Local Provider is borne by epono.
After the work starts
Once the work has started, an Order can no longer be cancelled by you. If something has gone wrong, report a problem as described in Section 15.
Refunds
We refund you in full if: we cancel or cannot carry out your Order for reasons within our control; we refuse your Order after payment for compliance reasons; or the law requires a refund. Where a problem is confirmed, we may also offer a partial or full refund.
If an Order that earned an epono Pro fee back is refunded in full, the fee back is taken back from your epono Credit, as far as your balance allows (Section 6 of our epono Pro Terms). A partial refund does not affect it.
Refunds are paid immediately to your epono Credit, whatever you paid with, and you can see them in your account straight away. If we refuse an Order after payment for compliance reasons, the refund goes back to your original payment method instead, which usually takes 5 to 7 business days depending on your card issuer. You can ask for your epono Credit to be paid to you as described in Section 13 (epono Credit).
We do not refund amounts for work properly carried out in accordance with your Order, or where the service could not be carried out because the information you gave was incorrect or incomplete, or because your Loved One refused or was unavailable for the service, except where the law requires otherwise.
A summary of these rules appears in our Cancellations & Refunds page. If there is any difference, these Terms prevail.
15 · Completion, confirmation and problems
When a Local Provider reports that the work is done, we ask you to confirm it. We send you reminders. If you do not confirm and do not report a problem within 24 hours of our request, the Order is confirmed automatically.
If something is wrong, report it before confirming, through your account; you can add photos to a report and to your support tickets. Reporting a problem stops automatic confirmation while we look into it. After an Order has been confirmed, you may still contact us about it for 90 days; a senior member of our team will decide whether to reopen it.
We will investigate every problem in good faith. Where the service did not meet the standard we promised, we may arrange for it to be redone, offer a partial or full refund or, for epono Pro members, epono Credit. You may also leave an optional review of a completed Order; you can edit it for 7 days. We do not publish reviews: we use them to assess the Local Providers we work with.
16 · Events outside anyone's control
We are not responsible for any failure or delay caused by events beyond our reasonable control — including natural disasters, epidemics, war, armed conflict, civil unrest, strikes, government action, new or changed sanctions or other laws, the closure of borders, banks or public offices, sudden currency or price shocks, and widespread internet, telecommunications or power outages in the destination country.
When such an event affects your Order, we will tell you, pause automatic steps, and work with you to reschedule, to resolve the Order in another way, or to cancel it with a partial or full refund, depending on what has already been done. While an Order is paused for such an event, it cannot be cancelled through your account; contact your Coordinator instead.
17 · Your Loved Ones
If you are an epono Pro member, you may invite up to five Loved Ones to a limited workspace in which they can see and confirm their own requests and, within the budget you set, submit new ones. You remain the Customer for every Order, you pay for every Order your Loved Ones submit, and you are responsible for their use of the workspace.
Before you share a Loved One's details or invite them, you must tell them about epono and our Privacy Policy and have their permission to share their information — including, where relevant, information about their health. Each Loved One must accept the Loved One Terms when first signing in. Access codes are personal and short-lived; do not share them with anyone else. You may mark where a Loved One's address is on a map, with their permission; they can confirm or move that mark from their workspace.
18 · Your obligations
You agree to:
- give accurate, complete and lawful instructions, and update them promptly;
- use the Services only in accordance with these Terms and our Acceptable Use & Restricted Services Policy;
- treat our staff, Coordinators and Local Providers with respect;
- not try to identify, contact or pay a Local Provider directly or to arrange services with them outside epono; where a Local Partner introduced you, deal with it about an Order only through epono, and never pay it directly for one;
- keep a tracking code or a free-month code you were given to yourself, and not share, sell or publish it;
- not copy, scrape, reverse-engineer or interfere with the Services, or access them by automated means.
If your information is incorrect or incomplete, we are not responsible for resulting delays, extra costs or failure of the service.
19 · Intellectual property
The Services, the epono name and logo, our website, illustrations, text, software and all related content belong to epono or its licensors and are protected by law. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable licence to use the Services for their intended purpose. You may not copy, reproduce, distribute, sell, modify or create derivative works from any part of them without our prior written permission.
You keep ownership of the content you give us. You give epono a licence to use it as needed to provide and improve the Services and to meet our legal obligations.
20 · Limitation of liability
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under the law that applies to you, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for your statutory rights as a consumer.
Subject to that, and to the fullest extent permitted by law:
- epono is responsible to you for arranging the service you ordered with reasonable care and skill;
- epono is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive loss, or for loss of profit, revenue, data, opportunity or goodwill;
- epono is not liable for loss caused by incorrect or incomplete information you provide, by a false declaration, by the acts or refusal of your Loved One, by events under Section 16, or by changes to sanctions or other laws after an Order is accepted;
- epono is not liable for any consequence of your failure to comply with laws that apply to you, as described in Section 6;
- epono's total liability to you for any Order is limited to the price you paid for that Order and, for any other claim, to the total amount you paid to epono in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim.
The Services are provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We do not guarantee that the website or application will be uninterrupted or error-free.
21 · Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless epono, its directors, officers, employees and contractors from any claim, loss, penalty, cost or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your breach of these Terms, your breach of any law — including any law referred to in Section 6 — a false or inaccurate declaration, or information you shared without the right to do so.
22 · Suspension and closing your account
You may close your account at any time by contacting us. Orders already in progress will be completed or cancelled in accordance with these Terms.
We may suspend or close your account, or refuse, hold or cancel any Request or Order, at our sole discretion and without having to give a reason, including where we reasonably believe that you have breached these Terms, that your use of the Services may breach any law, or that continuing would expose epono, its staff, its partners or its banking and payment providers to legal, regulatory or reputational risk. Where we cancel a paid Order that has not started, you will receive a full refund unless the law prevents it.
Sections 6, 13, 20, 21, 24 and 25 continue to apply after your account is closed.
24 · Recovery of legal costs in unmeritorious claims
If you, or any person acting on your behalf, start legal, arbitral or regulatory proceedings against epono, and those proceedings are dismissed, withdrawn, abandoned or struck out, or end in a final judgment or award entirely in epono's favour, you must reimburse epono for all reasonable and documented legal costs, lawyers' fees and disbursements actually incurred in defending or responding to them, on a solicitor-and-own-client basis, to the fullest extent permitted by applicable law.
This section applies regardless of the forum in which the proceedings are brought. It does not apply where a law or a court rule that cannot be excluded by contract provides otherwise, and it does not prevent you from making a complaint to a regulator.
25 · Governing law and disputes
These Terms, and any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with them or the Services, are governed by the laws of the Province of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada applicable in that province, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
If you have a concern, please contact us first at support@epono.ca. Most problems can be solved quickly that way, and we will reply within 10 business days.
Subject to the next paragraph, the courts of British Columbia, sitting in Vancouver, have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute, and you and epono submit to that jurisdiction.
If you are a consumer resident in a Canadian province or territory whose consumer protection law gives you the right to bring proceedings in your own province or territory, or to have that law apply, nothing in these Terms removes that right. If you live outside Canada, the choice of British Columbia law and courts applies to the fullest extent permitted by the mandatory law of your country of residence.
26 · Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms to reflect changes to the Services, the law or our business. If we make a material change, we will notify you by email or in your account at least 30 days before it takes effect, summarise the change, and tell you of your right to close your account without charge. Changes do not apply to Orders already paid for. Minor or purely editorial changes take effect when published. The "Last updated" date at the top shows the current version, and earlier versions are available on request. When a new version takes effect, we ask you to accept it the next time you sign in.
27 · General
- Entire agreement. These Terms and the documents they refer to are the entire agreement between you and epono about the Services.
- Language. These Terms are drawn up in English. Where we provide a translation, the English version prevails in case of difference, except where the law requires otherwise. If you live in Quebec, we tell you this before you accept, and you agree separately, when you create your account, that these Terms and the documents related to them are in English only. Si vous résidez au Québec, vous avez expressément demandé que ces conditions et tous les documents qui s'y rattachent soient rédigés en anglais seulement.
- Assignment. You may not transfer your rights under these Terms. We may transfer ours to an affiliate or a successor business, provided your rights are not reduced.
- Severability. If any part of these Terms is found invalid or unenforceable, the rest remains in force.
- No waiver. If we do not enforce a right immediately, we may still enforce it later.
- Notices. We may send notices to the email address in your account. You may send notices to legal@epono.ca.
- Electronic agreement. You agree that these Terms and all notices may be provided and accepted electronically.
